This notice explains which personal data the Berta Walks app (iPhone and Android) processes, why, and which rights you have. You can use the app without an account: we never ask for your name, e-mail address or other contact details.
Controller: PINTUMO UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Eisenacher Str. 116, 10777 Berlin, Germany, operating the app for walk this way (Berta Heide), Schudomastr. 26, 12055 Berlin, Germany.
For all questions about privacy, please contact: info@walk-this-way.net
The app loads walks, texts and images from our server (berta-walks.com). With every request your device transmits technical data, in particular its IP address, the time of the request, the requested content, the app version and the language of your device. We need this data to deliver the content and to keep the service secure. Server logs are only kept briefly for operation and security.
The app also creates a random installation ID when it is first started and sends it with every request. It does not identify you as a person; we use it only to recognise which walks this installation has bought (see "Purchases").
Our server and media storage are hosted by Fly.io, Inc. (servers in the EU, Amsterdam) and its storage partner Tigris Data, Inc., who process the data on our behalf.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(b) GDPR (providing the app you asked for) and Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (secure operation).
Single walks, city passes and the "all walks" pass are one-time purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google; we never receive your payment details or your name.
After a purchase, the app sends the signed purchase confirmation from Apple or Google to our server together with the installation ID. We check its signature and store the product, the transaction ID, the store, the purchase date and, if applicable, the date of a refund, so that the walks you bought are unlocked and stay available when you restore your purchases. We keep this data as long as the purchase is valid and as required by statutory retention periods.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(b) GDPR (performance of the contract) and Art. 6 (1)(c) GDPR (retention obligations).
The app uses your location only if you allow it in the system dialog. It shows your position on the map and how far away a walk's starting point is. Your location is processed on your device and is not sent to our server.
On iPhone, maps are provided by Apple (Apple Maps). On Android, maps are provided by the Google Maps SDK of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. When a map is displayed, Google receives technical data such as your IP address and device information and, if your position is shown on the map, your location. See Google's privacy policy.
Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR. You can revoke it at any time in your device settings.
The app sends push notifications only if you allow them in the system dialog. For delivery we use Firebase Cloud Messaging by Google Ireland Limited, which assigns a push token to your device.
Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR. You can switch notifications off at any time in your device settings.
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, we use Google Analytics for Firebase by Google Ireland Limited. It processes pseudonymous usage data, such as screens viewed, app starts and updates, an app instance ID, device model, operating system, app version and an approximate region derived from the IP address. The advertising ID is not collected and the data is not used for advertising or personalised ads. Google keeps this data for at most 14 months.
Legal basis: Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in improving the app). You can object at any time by writing to info@walk-this-way.net.
Google and Fly.io may process data in the USA. Both are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; in addition, the EU standard contractual clauses apply.
When you write to us, we process your e-mail address and the information you send us to answer your request, and delete it when it is no longer needed (Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR).
The app uses no cookies, shows no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites.
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. If you have given consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. To exercise your rights, write to walk this way, Berta Heide, Schudomastr. 26, 12055 Berlin, or to info@walk-this-way.net. Because the app has no accounts, please describe your purchase (store, date and the order number from your receipt) so that we can find your data.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).
We update this notice when the app or the legal situation changes.
